Do you remember playing "Pong"? Some of us might, and some of us might not want to admit it. Either way, Pong was the classic TV and arcade video game that got the ball rolling - and you can recreate your own version with an Arduino and some very simple external circuitry. Following the instructions by James Bruce, you just need two potentiometers for external game paddles, a couple of components and a hacked-up TV coax line. With the use of the Arduino tv-out library you can then display the game on a TV with composite video input - much better than an LED matrix:
