Build a treat dispenser for parrots with Arduino

For a school project, Instructables user wrightspelledwrong has created something we've never seen before - an Arduino-powered treat dispenser that is activated by pulling a chain, which starts a servo motor that spins a wheel to dispense treats to the author's African grey parrot. As this type of bird can easily become bored, the dispenser offers the user a new form of entertainment and a bonus to eat once doled out by the machine.

Over time the bird will most likely get used to the method of triggering the dispenser, and creating new types of activtators or buttons can be a fun challenge. Nevertheless you can find complete details for the original version from the Instructable pageAnd for more, we're on twitter and Google+, so follow us for news and product updates as well.

If you're interested in experimenting with Arduino for your own inventions - but not sure how to learn - order one of our Experimenter's Kit for Arduino:

The package includes a wide variety of parts, sensors and modules including: a servo motor, lights, buttons, switches, sound, sensors, breadboard, wires and more. Furthermore a Freetronics Eleven Arduino-compatible board is included to make this an extensive hobby experimenter, inventor and starter kit.
