An over-engineered dorm-room management system with Arduino

In what can either be described as an interesting project or an exercise in over-solving a problem comes the dorm-room management system by a student with the handle of "rushpro". Being in charge of organising chores, househole spending and the usual efforts of keeping a share-house in order drove the development of a system based around an Arduino Mega, LCD and numeric keypad. The system can be used to track money owed to the room kitty, chores, owed money to the controller and other items that can be neglected by flatmates. The system is explained in more detail through the following video:

No matter the opinion of the purpose, it's an interesting use of an Arduino and demonstrates creating a user-interface that can be used for more serious tasks, so visit the project page for more information. And for more. we're on twitter and Google+ - so follow us for news and product updates as well.

If you're looking for an Arduino-compatible board with plenty of I/O to drive GLCDs, keypads and more- consider the Freetronics EtherMega:

Quite simply the EtherMega is the fully-loaded Arduino-compatible board on the market today. Apart from being completely Arduino Mega2560-compatible, it includes full Ethernet interface, a microSD card socket, full USB interface, optional Power-over-Ethernet support and still has a circuit prototyping area with extra I2C interface pins. So if your project is breaking the limits, upgrade to the EtherMega today.
