Modifying a guitar tuner for the Blind

Created by a volunteer for the UK charity Remap, this modified guitar tuner is perfect for helping those who are visually-impaired or blind to keep their guitar in tune. By finding an existing guitar tuner that displays the results of the guitar via LED, it was a relatively simple procedure to connect the tuner's LEDs to an Arduino-compatible board's inputs. Then the Arduino outputs a series of beeps to an earphone that relates to the results from the tuner. Check it out in the following video:

What a great idea - bringing a convenient device to an greater audience. Find out how it can be done at the project page. And for more, we're on twitter and Google+, so follow us for news and product updates as well.

To recreate the modifications described above, or if you need a compact Arduino-compatible - consider the LeoStick. It's the Arduino Leonardo-compatible board that's cheaper and smaller than the original:

Apart from being one of the smallest Arduino-compatibles on the market with USB, it also has an onboard RGB LED and piezo which can be used a knock sensor and various tune and sound effects. Plus you can add extra circuitry with the matching protostick! For more information and to order, click here.
