DIY Simple VU meter with Arduino

 It doesn't take long for Arduino users to discover the analogue inputs, and one example of this is the basic VU meter by Instructables user  "siemenwaters". By simply measuring the audio signals presented to analogue pins A2 and A4, the levels are displayed using custom characters on a standard HD44780-interface LCD module. It's easy to make and can be visually-appaling (and also a nice match for the spectrum analyser from last week). Here's a quick demonstration:
